Hill battled their way through to the next round of the Astres Trophy by beating Barton Rovers B 2-0 away. In a hard fought game the passage of play was evenly balanced for much of the first half, with both sides hitting the woodwork and coming close to taking the lead on several occasions. However Josh Browne put in a commanding goalkeeping performance to keep Barton at bay.
The deadlock was broken in the 24th minute when Ricky Roberts weaved around the Barton defence and made a sweet pass into the box for Connor Clark to tap in the opener. Another goal scoring chance was set up by Ricky early in the second half sending Luke Irvine through clear on goal to score, or so we all thought in the bottom right corner. However when the ball appeared behind the goal it was deemed a miss by the Referee. Closer inspection of the net revealed the net was not properly pegged down, but the decision stood and it was the goal that never was.
Despite the disappointment Hill continued a dominant position in the game despite Barton breaking through on goal a couple of times, but again Josh Browne stood strong and kept a clean sheet. Hill's dominance paid off in the 55th minute when Luke Irvine broke through and chipped both defence and Barton keeper to give himself an open net to claim Hill's second, allowing some breathing space and ultimately a worthy win.
It was a great team performance with everyone playing their part in ensuring a place in the next round of the trophy. Josh Brown was awarded the "Player of the Match" award for an outstanding game as keeper.
