Despite starting the brighter of the two teams Boyne Hill lost the final competitive game before the Christmas break. The match was played in dreadful weather conditions and on a a pitch in questionable playing conditions, that was almost called off by the Referee. Several early Hill strikes on goal were repelled, the best being a fine lob from Luke Irvine on the edge of the visitors box that was tipped over the top of the bar by the keeper to prevent Hill taking the lead.
The tide of play turned at the mid way point through the first half with three quick strikes by Purley which the Hill never really recovered from. However the Hill kept their heads high and battled on, with some outstanding defensive play by Centre backs Ben Hynard and Jordon Roberts to earn them joint "Man of the match" awards. Hill not only kept Purley at bay but put pressure on their box frequently.
Thankfully the weather eased in the second half and the balance of play remained evenly split through to late in the game. A Hill attack that ended with the ball getting stuck in the mud was seized on by Purley to counter attack and score the first of two late strikes that put the result beyond doubt. Hill however can take heart that they fought well on an energy sapping pitch against a team that has not lost this season and is scoring an average of 9+ goals per week.
